Tragedy occurred in the African music
world on Saturday, November 30 as veteran Congolese superstar, Tabu
Ley Rochereau died in Brussels, Belgium.
NET gathered that the 76-year-old singer
died of stroke, a condition that had confined him to a wheelchair since
2008.
Since his death, tributes have poured in
from all over the world especially from his fellow artists.
Notable among them is Fally Ipupa
who tweeted some hours after the news broke ‘Rip papa Tabu Ley the
really big dealer of African and Congolese Music’
The veteran singer launched his musical
career in 1959, helped popularise the music genre and in 1970, became
the first African musician to perform at the Paris Olympia music hall.
He has since composed 2,000 songs with 250 albums.
Funeral arrangements for Tabu Ley would
be held in Kinshasa.
