The organisers of One Mic Naija called it the ‘Turn Up’ edition and from the look of things, that is what happened.
One Mic Naija held on Sunday December 8th
at Ember Creek, Ikoyi and Deetunes, Chopstix, Fliptyce were just some
of the guests around to cheer on as A.T, Endia, Moses, Sean Tizzle, Show
Dem Camp, Skales and Yemi Alade danced, sang and brought the crowd to
their feet.
Moses, the winner of
Season 3 of Nigerian Idol was up next and he reminded everyone that
Christmas was in the air with a medley. Then he performed ‘Number One’,
the video for which was released last week.
Rapper, A.T took control
of the stage next with a freestyle, and then ‘Murda’, her single. It was
followed by a jam session with the band performing ‘wrecking ball’,
‘get lucky’ and other popular songs of 2013.
The Grip Boy tore up the stage next, getting everyone to rave and dance. His set was energetic and had the girls swooning.
Hosts, Kel and KB,
introduced Korebrown for the Audience Freestyle session with every
participant getting gifts courtesy PEAK, and the top three got a Tab,
Beats by Dre ear-phones and cash prizes, courtesy Studio 360 Degrees.
With the open mic done and
dusted, it was back to the performers and Show Dem Camp were up! They
performed a not-yet-released single, did individual verses, and then
surprised everyone by bringing Poe on stage for the monster hit, “Feel
Alright”.
You could tell Yemi
Alade’s set would be electric because she came up wearing a white shirt,
a black tux, shorts and a bow tie. That in itself was dramatic. From
serenading an audience member to twerking and then a dramatic
James-Brown-like finish, she delivered an unforgettable performance.
How do you top a performance like Yemi Alade? You bring Skales on.
His energy was undeniable
and the ladies jumped up appreciatively, singing and even rapping along,
especially when he performed “Take Care of Me”.
Wrapping things up was
Sean Tizzle who didn’t let the energy level drop one bit. He performed
“Sho le”, “mama e”, “Komole” and “kilogbe”, all without missing a beat.
One Mic Naija is a live
music concert, with performers jamming with the One Mic Naija band, once
every two months. The next showcase would be in February, but in the
meantime, there will be videos and more from the 2013 showcases.
